Disappointing Clintons

I have written about this issue probably way too much, so this might the final time I write about it. At least for now. The recent behavior and utterances of Bill and Hillary Clinton is very regretttable, at least from a Democratic perspective. As we've commented before, blame for the Clintons' estrangement from Barack Obama cuts both ways, and each side bears some personal responsibility for the continued rift.

That being said, the Clintons' kind words of late for both John McCain and Sarah Palin is just sad. I will be the first to say that the vultures in the media will take a single syllable and unfairly twist it to use it against the Clintons, as well as many other politicians for that matter. However, nothing the Clintons do politically is accidental, and their recent praise of both halves of the GOP presidential ticket is not some isolated mistake. It has been deliberate.

Clearly, the Clintons are still imbittered, even at this late stage. But any sympathy I may have had for them ends here. They simply cannot get over Hillary's loss, and are basically doing nothing to help Obama win. Yeah, yeah, Bill had an effective rally in Florida. It only took several months, and we may not see him again until January. Hey--that's his preogative, and he can do whatever he wants, but his obstinance continues to speak poorly for him. His praise of McCain and his seeming refusal to back Obama when given opportunities will only do harm to his legacy and his political party. Ditto Hillary.

All of this is a shame. There's not much left to say.
