Quote of the Day

"He's the best thing for that, for the Senate. Alaskans know this. This is a trumped up charge. ... I can remember Richard Nixon, you know, his years of service, what he's done. And everybody were ridiculing him and he ended up being the greatest president in the history of our century."

-Congressman Don Young (R-AK), on the verdict in the Ted Stevens trial

Well, it's only befitting that the 2 Alaksan members of Congress who came into office during Nixon's term, remember him so well as they themselves go down in defeat.

I've been following Don Young and this race for a while. Honesty, I think he is a fascinating guy, and he has had a pretty amazing career for a guy who moved to Alaska as a tugboat captain. It's all very interesting, including his ethical problems and borderline insanity.

There are some great gems on Don I've posted in the past. I also remember he was the only quoted on the eve of the 2006 election predicting the GOP would be fine and actually win seats (they dropped 30), though I have to find the exact quote. This quote today is funny on several levels, including Don putting Nixon above FDR, TR, Truman and others. It's definitely a classic.
