It's Never Too Early

Bobby Jindal's headed to Iowa. I'm sure it is to go on a fact-finding mission for the benefit of Louisiana's sugar industry or something similar.

Yeah, right. It never ceases to amaze me how early politicians are thinking about the future. Jindal is certainly a conservative star to be reckoned with, and if the economy is in the toilet come 2011, his business-oriented background will make him very attractive. Still, I question if his extremist views might ultimately doom him.

This is a guy I am going to enjoy watching over the next few years.

Jindal is so young that he makes Obama look like an old timer. He is 37 right now. I do not see him running until 2016 or 2020.

What do you make of the NY slots opening up in the next few years? You have a Gov and Senate seat that will be wide open.

If Jindal has the opportunity in four years, he will take it. For him to do anything else would be silly -- you never know what can happen in the future, and eight years in politics is 10 lifetimes.

In terms of NY, I am not terribly interested simply because whoever is named to replace Hillary will win easily in 2010. The race won't be competitive. In the governor's race I see Paterson winning. He would win a primary over Andrew Cuomo -- who is not that well-liked in the state -- and win a general. Rudy is not that popular, and I bet he doesn't have the guts to do put himself before the voters and risk a legacy-killing repudiation in front of Empire State voters who are supposed to adore him.
