Well, Minnesota did turn out to be the closest content in the county. With over 2.88 million votes cast, here is where we stand:
Norm Coleman 1,211,584 (43.03%)
Al Franken 1,210,894 (43.01%)
Dean Barkley 460,226 (13.96%)
With all of the precincts now in, the incumbent Coleman leads by two-hundredths of one percent. Unless Franken concedes, the race is headed for a recount of the nearly three million votes. I am not Nate Silver or a math wizard, but I am guessing that it will be hard for Franken to come back and win this thing despite the slim deficit he faces.
If the Democrats had nominated Betty McCollum, Mike Ciresis, or just about anyone else, they would have won. I want to look at all the data soon, but again, this is a brutal loss for Democrats, worse than Alaska which they really had no right to win to begin with given the state's politics.
