[GOP candidate for Pennsylvania's Tenth District Chris] Hackett’s ad then features Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), the Keystone State’s popular senior Senator, talking straight to the camera.
“I am very concerned about one-party rule in Washington,” Specter says in the spot. “That’s why it’s so important to elect Chris Hackett to Congress. With Chris Hackett, we’ll have a check against massive Democratic control. And that’s vital for our country.”
I don't remember you being that concerned about one-party rule when you were running for a fifth term in the Senate in 2004, Arlen. At that time, Republicans were seeking to expand their majorities in the House and the Senate, and they succeeded in the latter, picking up new seats in Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and South Dakota, while only losing one in Colorado. The result was that in 2005, the GOP controlled the House, had a 55-45 majority in the Senate, and of course the White House.
Funny how your perspective changes in politics when your political fortunes do a 180, huh?
